Can you catch an orbit?
READY TO LAUNCH
DISCOVER
What just happened?
Gravity always pulls the moon toward Earth while its motion carries it sideways. With the right balance, the moon keeps falling around Earth without ever landing. That path is an orbit.
ABOUT THIS MODEL
This model has one Earth, one moon, and gravity. Distances are in model units, not kilometers, and the sizes are not to scale: the real Moon is about 30 Earth-widths away.
NEXT CHALLENGE
Which speed keeps the moon’s distance almost the same the whole way round?
Pause any time to read the moon’s distance. The flight ends if the moon reaches Earth or passes 500 units. Start a new trial to compare another speed.
This is an on-screen model. This one is safe to try for real: go outside with a grown-up tonight, find the Moon, and look again at the same time tomorrow.

Every trial you finish is written down here, so you can compare what you changed with what happened.
